Working out ideas
I am still considering the idea of making a book, which is proving difficult to get started on as I was raised to not ruin books. The fact that it was drilled into me as a child not to mark, tear, cut not destroy a book weighed heavily on my creative spark until I offered a compromise. I will use a second-hand book from a second-hand bookstore.
I set out to the second-hand bookstore in search of a book that would be big enough and thick enough for this project. I looked for a book that would also have content related to my project. I found quite a lot of books about Nature, animals forests, and photography books on nature. They were all so wonderful that I felt I could not destroy them for this assignment. So I then considered books on religion and spirituality but then thought that would be an easy way to offend others. I then found the World History Atlas. It is the right size and thickness. As I flipped through its pages I realized it was the perfect book.
The World is a planet, Earth, on which we live. The History of the World Atlas is not the history of our planet earth but rather the history of the impact of humans’ interaction on Earth. It tells the story of Man’s expansion across the planet, colonialism of culture, wars, and capitalist success. All things that have negatively impacted the world in which we live. The History of the World Atlas is the perfect book to use for this project. I look forward to transforming it into a piece of art.

I tore out the center of the book with the intention to create an inner earth effect in which the roots of the trees connect which in turn allows the trees to connect with one another
