CHOICE:
I chose to create images using Light and Shadow.
With my piece, I continue my journey through making sense of the controversy that persists to confuse the general public and enable the decimation of our West Coast Old Growth Forests.
My intention was to create a forest of tree shadows by making tree silhouettes on which I would shine a strong light. I would place these silhouettes between a strong white light and a solid white wall.
On the card stock paper provided in FIN 211 class, I drew images of large coniferous trees; Fir, Spruce, Cedar, and Pine. I sketched the trees in graphite then coloured the trunk and foliage with chalk and went over that with oil pastels. I then cut out the images creating a silhouette of sorts.
I needed something sturdy to support the tree silhouettes. I spoke to my husband and we came up with the idea of making wooden frames from the scrap wood we had left over from our fence. I stapled the silhouettes to the wooden frames and created my forest.
